We all have ears to hear God. Whether or not we choose to listen is up to us. The people in Malachi’s day were complainers, asking where God was during times of injustice or hardship. We aren’t much different in this day. We need to be aware of the movements of God around us and not be complacent, ultimately “being gradually boiled to death” in worldly influences.
